nativity love

i am a sucker for a good nativity set. i have 4 right now, my favorite being my hand carved african set that I wheeled-n-dealed for in Sierra Leone. baby jesus has a head the size of a plum tomato and lips the size of a grape. can you picture it? it's amazing. i don't have a picture of mine, but it looks similar to this (except my baby jesus is MUCH better):

I just saw this post about some cool nativities here. I just love the variety and creativity. Although, none of them really come close to my large-lipped african baby Jesus. He just makes me happy :)

What's your fave??

Thank you, Coldplay… you still got it. I want to see you live again one day, even though your lighting techs go a little crazy, I still heart your shows :)

make your bed!!

do you hate hearing those words? I do! I heard them almost every day growing up and it's one of my least favorite things to do. (sorry, mom!) why make the bed, when in about 12 hours, you're just going to unmake it again. every. day. i ONLY make my bed when we have company. and sometimes that doesn't even get done because it's the last thing on my list to do. i love the way it looks when it's made, but i hate doing it.

ok, i'm done complaining. today, i'm talking about making my bed, but in a very literal sense.

I have been pondering about what kind of headboard would look fantastic above our cali king ever since we got it. I've daydreamed about getting a really old door, (possibly) refinishing it… depending on the condition. If it's beautifully distressed, I don't want to mess with that. I know it won't be hard to 'make', but i think we're going to have to wait until we move into a bigger place before we squish something else into our over-packed little apartment.

Here is a shmorgusboard (is that how you spell that?? get the pun?) of dreamy headboards…

recycled cabinet doors in different finishes. everybody together… "ooohhhhh!!"

shabby chic/cottage door headboard

ahhhh… yellow! my favorite.

this is exactly what i was talking about when i said, "beautifully distressed"
isn't it fabulous?!!! i love the bunting!

Now, go make you bed! :)

woodgrain madness

i have a mad crush on everything woodgrain right now. it started with amelie's birthday theme, forest friends. with all of the research i've been doing for her party, the more i have fallen in love with the look and feel of woodgrain patterns. here is an awesome inspiration board that makes me so happy :)

source unknown

and here is another woodgrain inspiration board i found

Unfortunately, I think I'm way behind on this trend because a bunch of this stuff isn't available any longer. SO sad about that, but it's still pretty to look at, right?

I can't wait to share what I've been working on for Amelie's birthday, but I don't want to spoil any surprises, so you have to wait :)

taggy-do's

I don't know if anyone else calls them "taggy-do's", but I just like saying it, so that's what I call mine! These are so much fun and if you have a baby, you know how much they are infatuated with tags. Cloth tags, plastic tags, paper tags (Amelie is especially a fan of anything that has to do with paper), etc. I figured they couldn't be too hard to make and they make great handmade gifts!

What you will need:
• ribbon (I have a plethera of scrap ribbon… this project is PERFECT for scraps!)
• fabric (I like to use satin, fleece, minky… anything extra soft - this is also great for using left over scrap fabric)
• pins, scissors, sewing machine, thread
And if you are an over-achiever like my amazing sister, you can sew a piece of noisy plastic on the inside for a crinkly effect… babies LOVE crinkles! (She uses her old wipe packages… genius!)
• Links, small toys (I've seen some tutorials where people hook toys onto the ribbon loops. Links are great because you can hook them onto carseats, crib rails, high chairs, etc.)

Here are some great tutorials for taggy-do's of all kinds:
Crinkle taggy-do
Monster taggy-do (SO freakin' cute!)
Owl taggy-do (I'm partial to this one!)
Plush cube taggy-do (Too complicated for me, but you might be able to tackle this one!)
Crinkle Bot taggy-do

Here is a picture of my lovebug enjoying the taggy-do trio that her Aunt Lucie made for her!

Happy crafting!

spit-up control

Everyone knows that every mom (and dad in most cases) needs a good set of burp cloths (why aren't they called "spit-up rags"?) in attempt to 'catch' (and i mean that very literally!) the nastiness that we all know as spit-up. SO many of my friends and family members have been reproducing like mad the past few years and I hate giving store-bought gifts (no offense to those who do… moms (and dads) also need butt paste, pacifiers, teething rings and wipes) . I always like to make my gifts, whether it's a diaper cake, a 'taggy-do', or burp cloths. This is my first (and pretty successful) attempt at making terrycloth "spit-up rags"

I am in love with this fabric and I have another fun project in the works that I'm using it for… I'm going to try to finish it this weekend!
